Day 185: Drip K-zing, it’s a Music Thing!

Drip, K-Zing, It’s a Music Thing!
by
Matt Zurbo

(I picture funny, skinny monsters, with the lead singer being a little human girl, and the drummer a boy, but entirely up to artist.)

Drip,
drip,
drip,
that’s how most good songs start.

A rusty tap,
drip,
drip,
drip,
leaking in the dark.

Ting, ting, ting,
softly,
on that symbol.
Ting,
ting,
ting.
A sound so small and sharp
you could fit it in a thimble.

Repeat that drip.
Drip, drip, drip,
try not to flip or slip.

Tap, tap, tap,
on that drum.
If you want,
use your thumb,
that’s a handy trick.

Get the bass player
to play along,
with every single
funky song

Bwomp, bwomp, slap,
Bwomp, bwomp, slap,
bwomp, slap, slap, bwomp,
and dopperty-dong!

Keep it going,
all of you,
steady, softly,
firm,
hold your cool,
but do not stop.

Now, the guitarist,
walks into place.
Tweak, ting,
he half teases, before:
BWWWWAAAAAAR!
he blows their faces off!

SCREEEEEEE…! the feedback hits
its peek.
”One, two, three…”
BASHSMASHCRASHPOW!
The drummer is released!

Bipperty, whipperty, tickle, crash, boom, boom, BOOM!!
Watch him half destroy
the room,
with a big noise feast!

Blat, balt, blat,
bwerp, bwerp,
plooooeeeeoom!
A wind section,
two trumpets, a trombone ,
and a didgeridoo.

Bwerp, tink, rattle, BOOM,
screee, clunk, b-going,
chicka, chicka, zoom,
marracas, keyboards and a wazoo,

“Bee-bop,boo,”
“Shoop, shoop, shooo…”
back-up vocals, please.

A–a-a-a. CHOO!
No, bless you,
even add a sneeze!

Now up steps,
the lead
singer.
A girl with swagger,
strut,
a confident sway,

people scream and faint,
when she looks their way.

Tinkity, tink, tink,
crash, crash, splash, crash!
Symbols left and right.
Listen to this sweet girl,
give everyone a fright!

WALLA, WALLA, WALLA,
ROAR, LALALA, ROAR!

Okay, now whisper,

softy,

nothing but
the

smallest,

Tink… tink… tink…

then…

ROAR SOME MORE!
SHAKE, WAIL, SHRIEK!

Everything, GOING OFF at once,
even play the kitchen sink!

Boom-atee, boom-a-tee,
boom-a-tee-toom,
tink, tink, WALLA tink!

Now, slowly, swoon and croon,
shiperty do-wop bop
your way down to

a murmur,
a blurt,
tonk,

one final k-zing.

Everybody gone,
just the drip,
drip,
drip
of a leaky tap,

as there has always been.
