Day 78: These Are the Things

These Are the Things
by
Matt Zurbo

(This is a simple book. Art direction up to artist.)

These are the things I like to hear:

The hum of a bee box.

The sound of waves from my bed.

Trees in hard wind.

An owl.

Mum’s laugh.

Three types of music at once.

A busy market.

These are the things I like to smell:

Wet cement.

Honey from a bee box.

Desert dust.

Hot donuts at a circus.

The smell of footy rooms.

A room full of books.

Mud!

These are the things I like to taste:

Homemade lunches.

Rain.

Ice water as it goes down my throat.

The saltiness of a day at the beach.

Sweat when I’ve tried really hard.

A peach from a tree.

These are the things I like to touch:

A dog’s ears.

A football.

A horse’s neck.

Sand in my feet.

A good skimming stone.

These are the things I like to see:

A full moon.

Dawn.

The garbage truck at 5am.

Dogs lazing in the sun.

Market spruikers.

Leathery farmers.

Strange insects.

A good race.

These are the things I like to feel:

Exhausted.

The sun on my skin.

The warmth of a camp fire.

The fall into dreams.

These are the things I like to do:

Imagine.

Race.

Laze in a breeze.

Go to the beach.

Go to the market.

Explore.

Make.

Dance.

These are the things I like to imagine:

Pirates.

Flying.

A big kite!

Hitting a six off Dad.

Walking on the moon.

With you.
Simple things, but good things, I hope.
