Once again, so many books for babies don’t have the theatre of mum and dad making easily mimicked, FUN, interactive sounds! Cielo LOVES them!
Also, I like the idea of counting books where the actions of one page, not just the number, leads to another. Storytelling at its earliest! I hope you enjoy.
Ten Steps
by
Matt Zurbo
Cielo went walking.
(Playing her cuatro – small acoustic guitar)
She found 1 cow.
MooOOOooo!
(Cow bending to nudge her onto its head as she plays.)
The cow was joined by 2 sheep!
(Girl standing on cow’s back, playing cuatro, as sheep jump in circles around them.)
Bahhh! Bahhhh!
Cielo then played to 3 bumble bees!
(Cow head looking up. Sheep on cow’s back looking up. Cielo standing one foot on sheep’s back, dodging bees as she plays.)
Bzzzzz! Bzzzzz! Bzzzzz!
4 bongo drums players joined in!
(Bongo player around cow, with sheep on top, and girl on top of them, falling off!)
Bip-bop! Bomp-donk! Bom-boom! Tick-a-ta-tonk-tonk!
5 kookaburras laughed, and laughed, and laughed, and laughed… and laughed!
(Kookaburras laughing as they carry startled girl, with cuatro, through the air.)
Uh-oh!
(Girl falling through sky.)
Phew! 6 trampolines!
(one of each character and the girl bouncing.)
BOING! Boing! Boing! BOING! Boing! Boing!
Chirp, chirp!
(Girl at apex of bounce back into air, staring, baffled, at little blue chested wren.)
Look out! 7 vehicles!
Honk! Brrm, Brmm, put-put, ding! Ding, ding, ding! Yo!
(Girl tumbling past seven vehicles. Penny-farthing, normal bike, scooter, old jalopy, monocycle, mad scientist car, little kid ringing bell of tricycle.)
WAIT! STOP! 8 ducks!
(Girl holding hand out, eight waddling ducks walking past her, cuatro still in other hand.)
Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack! Quack!
Pow!
(Girl and penny-farthing colliding, flying, arms wide, into air.)
Ow… ow… ow…
(Girl bouncing along ground on her bum.)
Aw. Nine doggies!
Arf! Arf! Slober, voof, voof! Arf, arf! Arf, yipe!!
(Girl playing cuatro, laughing, she again has one foot in air balancing as 4 puppies and five dogs are climbing all over her. One is doing a cute little puppy poo.)
(Even puppy poo is cute!)
10 wombats to finish our tale…
Ssh, ssh! Shh… Shh. Shh, shhh, shhh… SHH. Shh, shhhh…
(Ten wombat walking left to right, girl sleeping on back of one of them. Most have a finger to mouth, going ‘shh’ as they walk. One is sitting on another’s back, playing girl’s cuatro.)
(Girl sleeping in bed. One of each of the ten characters are watching her sleep from the window. A small frog on one of the bed poles is the only thing making noise.)
Gribbit… Gribbit…
The End.
