Ants In Pants

For Coach
Luke put ants down his pants!
YOW!
“Why did you do that?”
everybody asked,
this most peculiar cat.
At first he felt them wiggle,
as they ran everywhere,
climbing all about
his red underwear.
He looked at the crowd,
all still, watching him,
safe, quiet, dull;
things not really his thing.
Then, Luke felt a nibble,
followed by a BITE!
And Yi-hi-HOOEY!
The small boy, oh,
then REALLY took flight!
He hopped, he jumped, he scampered,
YOI, YOI, YOI, YOI!
bouncing about his yard,
crashing through his toys.
He fell on a trampoline,
making the ants bite harder,
which in turn made Luke,
leap higher, higher, HIGHER!
He bowled through a violinist,
as well as a big brass band,
scampered through some bats,
then a large bear clan.
He bounced over a water tower,
getting everybody wet,
which made all the cats and dogs,
go off their cat and dog heads!
They knocked over barbeques,
setting porches alight!
grumpy grumps shouting; “ENOUGH!”
picking grumpy grump type fights.
People ran here and there,
CHAOS!
WOH, LOOKOUT!
A fire truck was called,
to put everybody out!
Sirens sounding, babies crying,
WEE-OO! WAH, WAH! BONK!
Luke groaned and moaned and giggled,
as traffic jams went HONK, HONK!!
He HOPPED, he BOPPED, he SQUIRMED,
what a crazy dance!
“ZOWY!” some kids agreed,
each one in a trance.
To a one, they sort of thought
this looked kind of fun,
so they sat on anthills,
until ants bit their bums!
They crashed through this and that,
ROCKING, ROLLING,
Calling, “OH, MAN, please STOP!”
TWISTING, LAUGHING, BURPING,
ITCHING,
doing belly flops!
Finally, finding a pool,
everybody jumped in.
To a one, they all sighed;
“PHEW,
that was the strange thing!”
The best of times,
the worst of times,
all because of a small boy,
who thought some ants,
put down his pants,
might bring a little joy!
