Story 416: Hug

HUG
by
Matt Zurbo

Look, look, I have a present for you,
you cheeky fox!

Yes, yes, I know there’s nothing in
that big box!

It’s a HUG!

A hug, a hug!

A hug, a hug, as happy as a bed bug!

And, quickly,
here’s another!

And another!

Put one in your pocket,
give the other to your brother!

A hug saved for when life is
full of bother!

A hug, a hug I say!
For when times are boring,
for when they are grey!

For when you need to beat
a frown,
for lonely times,
when there’s no-one around.

A hug, A HUG!
They’re contagious, they’re snug!

Hug a hippo, a thug!
A sloth, a slug!

Melt a bully with your hug,
give a kid joy!
Make a puppy feel like
it’s not just a toy!

A hug, a hug,
hug a tree,
a flee,
or even hug me!

A DARE you; try to hug
a bumble bee!

Use it in a quiet moment,
in the cheer of a crowd!
Sealed with a warm smile,

a friend made proud,
put on a cloud!

Not all hugs have to be loud.

A hug, a hug, spend it as you will!
Lift a friend up,
when they feel like a dill!

A! HUG!

A hug, you big lug!

Hug away tears,
hug away fears.

Hug in a crowd, on a roof,
hug yourself until you feel
bulletproof!

Make people feel tall,
the lonely less lost,
in any country,
any weather,
in snow, heat or moss!

Hug the world, if you will!
Oceans, mountains, sky, farms!
Solve all of its problems,
with your out-stretched arms!

Give support, give warmth,
CELEBRATION,
shelter from a storm,

with something freely given,
since the day you were born.

A HUG! A HUG, I SAY!
from me to you!

Hug, hug, hug!
Hug the geeky, the cool!

A hug, a hug,
not a cent given,
not a cent spent.

Yet a present, I believe,
quite heaven sent.

The End
