Baby was special.
(Little baby girl, playing with toy tip truck.)
She loved to hide…
Then go…
(Girl hiding poorly behind solitary flower.)
PEEK-A-BOO!
(Baby’s face excited, hands and one foot in air, startling a cow.)
No-one was safe!
(Cowboy and cowgirl tip-towing behind baby, as she walks.)
Peek-a-boo!
(Baby turned, hands out, cowboy and cowgirl both blown over/onto their backs.)
No-one.
(Knight lifting helmet mask to look left and right. Baby dangling unseen, upside down from top corner of page.)
Peek-a-boo!
(Baby arms wide, knight so shocked, half its armour falling off.)
No-one and no thing!
Peek-a-boo!
(Baby popping out of creator, scaring man-in-the-moon.)
Peek-a-boo!
(Baby scaring dragon.)
PEEK-A-BOO!
(Baby scaring monster.)
Peek-a-boooooo…
(Baby, peeking over tombstone at night, scaring ghouls back into their graves.)
Peek-a-boo…?
(Two big, overweight footballers, and one skinny one, boys and girl, staring deadpan at baby crouching, hiding badly behind football.)
PEEK-A-BOO!
(Baby poking head out from clinging to far side of pram. Everybody at bus stop shocked.)
It’s exhausting for everybody on her block…
(Baby running away, happy, awkward, baby run. Everybody at bus stop flopped, passed out, hiding behind pole, etc…)
Nobody is too big…
Peek-a-boo!
(Popping out of neck of top of giant Viking. Giant Viking dropping axe.)
Nothing is too small…
….P.e.e.k.a.b.o.o.!
(Baby’s face, smiling, leaning down. Back two ladybugs leaping, startled into air. Third is still walking in opposite direction.)
Oh, no! Where has she g…
(Every character so far in book lying passed out, hiding, or in shock.)
PEEK-A-BOO!
(Baby’s face filling the page.)
Gah!
Enough is enough! Somebody please distract her…
(Monster holding out small flower. Cowboy dancing, pulling face. Baby watching, as dragon and kid from bus stop, at top of page, behind her, winch lower a mirror.)
Hmm…?
(Baby crouched behind a rock, looking suspiciously at mirror.)
PEEK! A! BOO!
(Baby leaping, arms high in air. As is reflection.)
(Baby passed out.)
